Jake and Aiden have been best friends—and nothing more—since the age of six. Now 22-year-old college graduates, they take a road trip around the USA, visiting every state in 100 days.

As they start their cross-country odyssey, Jake and Aiden think they have their journey and their futures mapped out. But the road has a funny way of changing course.

Fifty states. Two boys. One love story.

Today I'm pleased to welcome Mimsy Hale, author of 100 Days. She has graciously agreed answer a few questions to let readers get to know her better!

Carly: What is the best book you ever read and why is it your favourite?

Mimsy: The best book I've ever read is probably World War Z by Max Brooks. It's so well written, and it's like an exercise in how to write different voices. Each one is unique, and each story is unique, though they're all tied together with a single, unifying thread. It's also unsettling on many levels, not least because it makes me wonder if Mr. Brooks knows way more than the rest of us do.

Carly: If you could choose to have any type of super power what would it be and why?

Mimsy: Funny you should ask! I actually have a superhero alter ego; it was my birthday recently, and I had a superhero-themed outing with a bunch of friends. My superpower would be that I could write anything down and have it come true. At my birthday, people got made to do some pretty funny things!

Carly: What is your favourite memory?

Mimsy: I'll pick one from during the writing of this book—I was staying with A.J. DeWall in New York, and I couldn't sleep. It got to about two a.m. and I was sick of tossing and turning, so I got up, took my laptop out onto her front porch, and just wrote for a couple of hours. It was dark, and quiet, and warm. I had everything I needed: a comfy chair, a blank page, and inspiration. It was truly peaceful.

Carly: Do you have a guilty pleasure?

Mimsy: Cheesy 90s pop music, for sure. Being a 90s kid, it's the music I grew up listening to—Backstreet Boys, Steps, Atomic Kitten, Boyzone, etc. It always brings back such great memories of the first sleepovers I ever had, giggling long into the night with my friends about our favourite TV shows and which boy supposedly had a crush on which girl. Music is omnipresent in my life, and I have a song for every memory. Generally, if music wasn't playing at the time then I have a hard time remembering it!

Carly: If you could take a vacation anywhere in the world where would you go?

Mimsy: Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands. It looks like paradise on earth. I'm always researching places I'd like to go (though I can tell you for sure that I took a research break after writing 100 Days), and I've read so many great things about the people there, the welcoming atmosphere, and the easygoing pace of life that I think it'd be an ideal place for me to chill out, expand my horizons, and write!
Because anything really could happen, couldn’t it? What if what happened in Philadelphia wasn’t a total mistake, but simply the prelude to Jake finally listening to what his instincts have been telling him for weeks? What if, what if, what if…

“What are you doing? Come see this!” Aiden calls out.

Jake takes a deep breath and steps out of the shadows. Aiden is silhouetted against the fading sun, the light picking out the auburn in his hair, and as he stretches his arms up over his head, one finger hooked through the woven bracelet he bought earlier, he grins out at the horizon. Jake feels as if he’s watching Aiden through brand new eyes; he knows that there is rescue in those arms. Suddenly he wants to fall into them and hold on until he feels safe.

Aiden turns away from the vista, pushes his sunglasses up on top of his head and looks down at Jake, his eyes sparkling with warmth and light. He leans forward and holds out his hand, and he looks… beautiful.
Mimsy Hale has been a contributing ghostwriter to several bestselling nonfiction books. She is also an established writer in online fan communities, where her stories have hundreds of thousands of reads. 100 Days is her first novel. She lives in Suffolk, England, with her roommate and four cats.
